Welcome Natasha ‘Tash’ Mooney-our 49th Winemaker!

Published by Mark Pollard - 8th Oct 2018

Our Angels’ passionate support has liberated Naked’s 49th winemaker. Woohoo!

Back in February, out of the blue, I got a phone call from a multi Trophy-winning winemaker who has built a truly formidable reputation in the Australian wine industry.

Possessing silky skills, a visionary eye and a laser-like determination she has been making ground-breaking wines since 1992 – wines that are quite simply… outstanding!

The winemaker who called me was Natasha ‘Tash’ Mooney – and she was looking to get on board. Boom!

If she hadn’t called me, I was going to call her.

Tash (as she’s known to friends, family, workmates and now – Angels!) is helping to shape the current and future direction of Australian wine.

With a rock solid apprenticeship mentored by the likes of legends Philip Shaw, ex-Rosemount, and Wayne Falkenberg of iconic Lindemans it’s no surprise that Tash has developed an unerring ability to tap into the styles that wine drinkers are craving.

“I want to engage people’s interest in wine with styles and varieties that are unconventional and thought provoking”

– Tash Mooney

Tash’s travels over the years have seen her racking up vast winemaking experience: from the Hunter Valley, Mildura, Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley in Australia, to Oregon, Chile and South Africa internationally.

And along the way she’s accumulated a trophy cabinet bursting with awards – among them, being included in the Wine Spectator Top 10 Wines of the Year in the U.S. with a wine from her time at Barossa Valley Estate between 1996 and 2002. Woohoo!

Since 2007, Tash has been a powerhouse winemaking consultant based in S.A. helping boutique producers like The Lane, Sidewood Estate and Mount Adam achieve acclaim and success.

And now, after ‘that’ phone call in February, Tash is thrilled to bits to be supported by thousands of Angels.

She’s so excited to be offering first up, two delicious wines that are extremely close to her heart from her beloved Adelaide Hills.

French Kiss Red by Tash Mooney 2017
With access to some gnarly old vines between 20 and 30 years of age, including some of the oldest in the Adelaide Hills, you’ll be gobsmacked by this juicy Grenache Shiraz blend. Incredible flavour concentration overflowing with characters of fresh fruit, plums and raspberries, this oh-sooo-vibrant red is crying out for wood fired pizza with prosciutto or fresh basil pesto pasta. Simply perfect!

Italian Kiss White by Tash Mooney 2017
Crafted from Pinot Gris and Arneis, Italian Kiss is full to the brim of fruit expression and sheer jump-out-of-the glass lusciousness. Nectarine and pear fruit flavours mingle tantalisingly with a lovely hint of passionfruit aromas. Match this up with BBQ prawn skewers and a fennel salad and you’ll be singing ‘Summertime, and the livin’ is sooo easy…’

Ahhh, yummm, Angels are going to love these!

Natasha ‘Tash’ Mooney is living her dream, continually pushing the boundaries and reshaping expectations. It’s exciting stuff, and is all possible thanks to our incredible Angels.
