3 Pinot’s, 20 Angels & a whole lotta Duck – Santolin Fantasy Tasting!

Published by Nicole Russell - 2nd May 2016

Ahoy Naked bloggers! For those of you interested in chasing dreams and/or Pinot Noir, you’re going to love this one…

I’m Gab, and as a member of Naked HQ I was lucky enough to go to a tasting hosted by Adrian Santolin (of Boy Meets Girl wines) in Sydney with fellow staff Evan, Pat, Poll, Napper and Anita, and of course 20 or so of our hottest Sydney based Angels! It was our way of saying thank you, giving them an up close & personal introduction to the latest Winemaker Fantasy to hit the Naked website.

So what was all the fuss about you ask?
The Santolins were voted by Angels as winners of Naked’s 2013 round of Fantasy funding – that’s a cheeky $80,000 by the way. With this boost, they set about creating a delicious three pack; their Pinot Noir Menage a Trois. A poor 2014 Pinot vintage meant there wasn’t enough top quality fruit available. Not the kind to be disheartened, Adrian and Rebecca waited for Mother Nature to do her best the next year, and she delivered!

With amazing 2015 conditions, they could showcase the overarching effect geographic origins have on fruit parcels, even after the same winemaking techniques had been applied. The three wines are from the Macedon Ranges, the Upper Yarra Valley and the Lower Yarra Valley. At the tasting, people didn’t hold back proclaiming their favourite! Adrian explained exactly how and why the palates were so different and what ageing advice was best from region to region. It was great to see people’s favourites chop & change as the gorgeous duck & cheese based lunch progressed, since the wine’s layers naturally evolved in our open glasses. The subtle nuances, quality and class of these cracking Aussie Pinot’s had everyone smiling from ear to ear.

If you’re drooling and want to tuck into the small batch Pinot Noir Menage a Trois before it’s all drunk up, you can buy one here for just $79.99 Angel price, including three free wine glasses!

A massive thank you to Nic, Adrian, and Rebecca for organising this gem of an afternoon. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Fantasy wines deserve a big celebration since their essence is to capture what getting Naked is all about – fulfilling winemaker’s dreams & sharing them with happy Angels!

Cheers, Gab
