Our First Angel-Funded GSM From The Master Blender!
Published by Nicole Russell - 3rd May 2016
Geoff Thompson has just added a blended masterpiece to his range of Naked Wines. This is our very first Angel funded GSM from the master blender himself!
What is a GSM I hear you say?!…
GSM, which stands for Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre is a blend that originated in the Southern Rhone region of France.
Grenache is actually the lightest of the grapes and produces a pale red juice with soft berry scents and a bit of spice. It contributes to alcohol, warmth, and fruitiness without much tannin.
Shiraz contributes full-bodied fleshy flavours of black fruits and pepper. It adds colour, backbone, and tannin and provides balance to the blend.
And finally, Mourvedre (commonly called Mataro in Australia) contributes elegance, structure, and acidity to the blend producing flavours of sweet plums, roasted game and hints of tobacco…
Taking 3 different varietals from 3 different vineyards and blending them into a harmonious wine is a challenging art… Very few winemakers have this skill but when the winemaker gets it right it can be much better than the sum of its parts.
In this case, Geoff Thompson got it REALLY right with his Lodestar 2015 GSM and Angels are lucky this month of May to have it for free! Check it out here: https://www.nakedwines.com.au/wines/lodestar-grenache-shiraz-mourvedre-2015.htm
