Engine Room launch party – Magic in the McLaren Vale!
Published by Nicole Russell - 31st Jul 2016
Just one week ago, 150 people from all walks of life gathered at the beating heart of the McLaren Vale to ring in the arrival of the new 2015 vintage Engine Room wines with a big song and dance.
And why not! With our Sydney based Naked HQ team bus rolling in to town on their last day of a South Australian tour, Hamish Maguire’s mighty winemaking team and 50 Angels present with their partners, the opportunity was too good to pass up.
Hamish hatched the idea of inviting 50 Adelaide based Angels along to his cellar door at Shottesbrooke several months ago. The event was his way of thanking local Angels for their loyal support over the past four years, while offering a behind the scenes winery tour, a delicious lunch and some toe-tapping live music.
Not a hand was empty all afternoon as the stunning Engine Room reds were poured, sipped and slurped as we looked out on the passing patchwork of rain and sunshine that decorated the vineyard. There was even two sparkling guest appearances – Hamish’s Angel favourite Blanc de Blancs and his Sparkling Shiraz NV.
Australian wines like those in the Engine Room range don’t come along very often. Liberating winemakers to experiment with their craft and create delicious, authentic boutique wines simply can not happen without Angels and the Naked team contributing to the virtuous cycle of Naked funding all year long. If ever there was a time when the Naked model and spirit was captured in one buzzing room of smiles, this was it.
Each guest was farewelled dutifully by gorgeous Angus, Hamish’s furry brown four-legged pal, who is a key component in the decision making process of each vintage. We couldn’t have asked for more kind or friendly hosts than all the superstars in Hamish’s team.
The afternoon of tasting, touring and grooving along in amongst the oak barrels of the Engine Room was one that will live on in the stories of our Naked history.
A huge thank you to everyone who chose to spend their Sunday afternoon with a load of excited Sydney siders – both Angels and Engine Room team alike. We loved it!
